Duck Pond

Building Description

Duck Pond rests at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Rivers Street, right below Trivette Dining Hall. It is home to dozens of ducks and geese. In the center of the pond a fountain operates 24 hours a day. It is overlooked by Trivette Dining Hall and a giant statue of Yosef, the Appalachian State mascot, guards the front of the pond

History

Every February the Polar Plunge takes place at Duck Pond. The Polar Plunge is an annual fund raising event sponsored by local police departments and other organizations in the area. All proceeds from the event go to the Special Olympics. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $67,000. Participants can take the plunge for a fee of $25 and rewards are given to those with the best costumes and to the best fund raisers. Please be advised, February in Boone can get quite cold!
