Sottile Theatre
Building Description
Sottile Theatre is the primary theatre used by the College of Charleston Arts department. It contains both an orchestra and balcony level that together seat up to 785 people. It is famous for its large, shallow saucer-shaped dome in the ceiling. When lit, it appears as though there are twinkling stars on the ceiling.
History
Sottile Theatre was built in the 1920’s as Gloria Theatre. It was originally used to provide the people of Charleston with presentations of films and vaudeville productions. The College of Charleston bought it in 1976 and renovated it in 1986 to become more student-friendly.

- Key rooms include 3 spacious lobbies, each equipped with concession facilities. The theatre also includes 2 fourteen person dressing rooms, 2 six person dressing rooms, and 2 star dressing rooms. There are two loading areas located on the north and west sides of the buildings.
