Building Description

Gilbert-Addoms residence hall is home to approximately 190 First Year students on Duke’s East Campus. Like all other halls on campus, Gilbert-Addoms is co-ed, with male and female students living on the same floor. Gilbert-Addoms is staffed by one Graduate Assistant and eight Resident Assistants under the supervision of Residence Coordinator Carl Krieger.

Gilbert-Addoms is part of the East 3 Neighborhood along with Southgate. It is a four-story non air-conditioned dormitory located behind adjacent to Southgate and Randolph.

History

Opening in 1957, the building was named in honor of Katherine Everett Gilbert, Professor and first chair of the Department of Aesthetics, Art, and Music and for Ruth Margery Addoms, Professor of Botany.

Commons Rooms
The large commons rooms allow students a quiet space to study or a communal space to play pool, ping pong, or watch TV.
GA Down Under
Gilbert-Addoms is also is home to the GA DownUnder, a large multi-functional area for residents from across East Campus. It is a great place to study, play pool, or attend Devils After Dark, a programming series every week on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from 10PM - 2PM.
Gilbert-Addoms Deck
The G.A. deck offers porch swings and picnic tables to spend a sunny afternoon sitting outside to talk with fellow residents.
