Haggerty Museum of Art
Building Description
The Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art is an art museum on the campus of Marquette University. The Haggerty boasts a permanent collection of over 6,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other visual art pieces. Some artists in the collection include: Chagall, Warhol, Dali, and Lichtenstein.
History
The museum was opened in 1984 and the construction site was decorated by a mural called On the Fence by American artist Keith Haring. The construction was made possible by a donation from alumnus and co-founder of Texas Instruments Patrick E. Haggerty and his wife Beatrice. Another important benefactor was David E. Straz, Jr., also an alumnus.
