Nieuwland Science Hall
Building Description
This 200,000 sq foot state-of-the-art facility contains a variety of research labs, classroom space, and lecture halls for undergraduate and graduate education in the hard sciences. It was just recently completed and is one of the primary homes of science on the Notre Dame campus. It was named for Father Julius Nieuwland, a researcher in the 1930s on Notre Dame’s campus.
History
Named for Father Julius Nieuwland, who in 1931 did a great deal of research on chemical compounds. His research led to the discovery and development of neoprene, a flexible material used often in athletic braces and supports.
