Shapiro Undergraduate Library (UGLi)

Building Description

UGLi is the main undergraduate library on campus, and houses thousands of books, periodicals, and other reference materials. Open until 5am every night, this library is the ideal place for late-night studiers. The library also has two well known pieces of artwork: The Hanging Starburst by Harry Bertoia and The Eskimo Mother and Children Frightened by Demons, by Napatchie Pootoogook.

History

The library is named for Harold T. Shapiro, the 10th president of The University of Michigan, serving from 1980 to 1987 (also the president of Princeton University from 1988 to 2001), and his wife, Vivian B. Shapiro, an Associate Professor Emeritus in the School of Social Work.

There are numerous group and individual study rooms, as well as rooms dedicated specifically to reading and studying.
