Claudia Cohen Hall
Building Description
Formerly Logan Hall, Cohen Hall is home to the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts and Sciences. Whether taking a Philosophy class or scheduling your upcoming semester, Cohen Hall is a place most students will at some point in their careers stumble upon. With a castle-like exterior and a Hogwarts-esque interior,Cohen hall offers a very warm atmosphere. If you take a look out one of the windows, you will see the picturesque Wynn Commons.
Cohen Hall is a popular arena for guest speakers, and it's auditorium on the bottom floor provides a state-of-the-art facility to listen to both these speakers and Penn faculty present lectures on a variety of topics. Across the hall, the Fox Art Gallery gives students an opportunity to display their works for all to see. In addition to students, local and international artists regularly show their creations to eager audiences.
Located close to both Spruce street and Locust Walk, a good meal is never far away. Neither is a steady flow of students, as its central location ensures that freshman leaving the Quad or upperclassmen heading home for the day will likely pass Cohen Hall at some point in the day.
History
Claudia Cohen Hall, the second building constructed on Penn's West Philadelphia campus, opened for use by the Medical School in 1874. After the School of Medicine moved to the Medical Laboratories Building, the building was known as Logan Hall, and it became the home of the Wharton School. After the completion of Vance Hall, the Wharton School's last programs left Logan Hall and the building became the home of several School of Arts and Sciences departments as well as University Life and other administrative offices.
In 2008, Logan Hall was renamed Claudia Cohen Hall and is now the home of the College of Arts of Sciences.
