Holmes Lounge
Building Description
The Mary Brooks Holmes Lounge is located in Ridgley Hall in the north end of Danforth Campus. This lounge space was once simply Ridgley’s Reading Room.
History
Ridgley Hall was first built in 1904 and was occupied by the university in 1905. When the Olin Library was completed in the 1960s, Ridgley’s reading room was turned into a lounge space, which is now known as Holmes Lounge. The lounge was renovated in 1997. It is named after Mary Brooks Holmes, who was a philanthropist who gave to Washington University a great deal before her 1965 death.
